Do you have to be a US Navy Seal to join our self-guided walking tours?
Our self-guided walking tours have been designed to combine the adventurous and exciting side of the tours with safety for our walkers, most of whom come from countries with different cultural backgrounds and, most importantly, are unfamiliar with the distances and geo-localization of the sites and points of interest. WalkItaly proposes a 4-point strategy:
- A face-to-face meeting with WalkItaly Tours staff. Before each tour, a dedicated meeting takes place with our staff to explain the tour in detail and underline difficulties and critical steps. This face-to-face meeting is a unique opportunity to listen to our walker’s opinions and level of understanding of the tour.
- Provision of a Road Book. The Road book is an original, step-by-step guide developed by WalkItalyTours that describes the route and provides logistic information. The book is complete with traditional maps that are helpful whenever the walkers have a global view of the route. Although the descriptions in the Road Book are as detailed as possible, sometimes interpretation can differ from reality. For example, rainy conditions can make it difficult to “read” the route, or the landscape can be obscured by foliage.
- Sharing walking tracks using GPX files. We have designed our itineraries with an internet service usually used for tracking physical exercise which incorporates social network features. The software uses a freemium model. We send dedicated GPX files to our clients that can be easily followed even without an internet signal (….). There are occasional inaccuracies when there are walls and houses along the route, for example when entering villages, but the combination of the Road Book and the GPX tracks provide robust support for adventurous walkers.
- 24-hour assistance with a “Man on the spot”. In addition to technological and analogical support, we offer 24-hour assistance via WhatsApp and the availability of a “Man on the spot” with knowledge of the area able to intervene quickly should an emergency arise.
We believe that these four pillars contribute to the safety of our self-guided walking tours without reducing the sense of adventure. In short, you have don’t have to be a Navy Seal to join our Self-guided tours!
Best from Roberto.
