Ciao dear fellow travellers!
Many of you have asked where I have been since the last tour in Sardinia? Easy: I am planning and developing new itineraries in new locations with ingenuity and fantasy. This is the case for 5-days Elba Island Grand Tour starting from “Napoleon’s house sits bright and happy in a coat of butter-yellow paint on the promontory looking at the Tyrrhenian sea” or a rowing iconic experiences on the Tiber. Having rowed the Head of the Charles (Boston) and the Head of River (London), it was more than natural propose this tour.
I loved to read again and again the comments (and the criticisms) I collect at the end of each tour and the reviews published on TripAdvisor: they are an endless font of inspirations. Did I do well? Bad? Should I do a shorter stroll or else? Going through the comments is travelling twice! What a reward.
It is more than obvious that I learned a lot from each meeting with my guests. What is less obvious is to realize how my guests are more familiar with Italy than I am with Australia or Canada. I remember the “Diario di un viaggio a piedi” by Edward Lear, Barbara and Grant recommended or “Etruria” by DH Lawrence, Sally was kind enough to give to me as a gift.
Between one tour and the other, I keep my self-updated about tourism trends. I am pleasantly surprised to read that the World Travel Market (WTM) in London data indicates that Brexit did not negatively influence UK tourists coming to Italy. Is this something good from Albion Island?
Last but not least, do not hesitate to ask for tailored made tours. I received inquiries from Jennifer (UK) and Pou (Saudi Arabia) interested in tailored made tours. If you need tailored-made experiences, just ask for a skype call (free of charge) and we will find together what you are looking for. Syd was interested in making a volcanic cocktail of “Running + Tourism”. Why not? since I am approaching my sixties and I should find out a decent way to celebrate! Just contact me.
Self-guided tours are starting to be appreciated. I have already requests for 2020 from Australia and I am curious to meet them in Capalbio for the briefing before their departure. Hotels and accommodation have been booked already as well as the commuting between the different locations with the help of Paolo. My telephone will be always on during these days.
About the picture: I made it in Eboli, a village in South of Italy for the celebration of Saints Cosma and Damiano brothers and Medical Doctors martyrs in the 4th century (September 26th). The mix of religious (the priest), secular (the Carabinieri) and political power (The Major) is surprising and intriguing as well.
