Plogging has been discovered in Sweden by combing running and waste collection. The word is a neologism of the Swedish word “plocka upp” and jogging. WalkItalyTours applies Plogging to our walking tours. Therefore, not only walking but also collecting wasting, bags, shoes, and gloves! This is good for us and for the environment we are crossing with our travels.
Despite stereotypes, sources say that Italy is on the forefront in terms of good-practices. Italy implements today (2019) – before the 2021 – the Single-plastic directive banning single-use glasses and forks. The number of beaches, universities, local authorities #plasticfree are increasing against any expectations since they recognize the #plasticfree as a powerful marketing tool. An italo-italian law bans today plastic cotton bud made out of non-biodegradable plastic and micro-plastic in cosmetic products. In terms of selective collection, at the national level, Italy has already reached the 2025 European targets since 80% of packaging waste is recycled. Rome, the Capital city is still far from these targets….
To make a long story short, WalkItaly Tours applies plogging in our trips, when and if possible. Do you want to join us?
PS: August 15th is a big holiday in Italy: Ferragosto. You may curious about the origin of the name. It is Ferie (Holidays) of Augustus (The Roman Emperor). Even he needs some rest every now and then. This is the reason why, we rest as well until the end of the month ready for the two October tours: South of Tuscany (2 places still available) and Sardinia.
By the way, are you interested for the October tours in South Tuscany? Few places are still available. Look at the blog for the dates. October will be in the middle of the olive harvest seasons and leafage! Superb.
