I have been asked, “How to make a nice walking”? In addition to honest training, during the years I would not hesitate to say that light backpack and good socking are the two key issues for a successful and enjoyable walking.
Let’s start with the backpack. Stay light, be happy. When you buy a backpack the vendor asks you many questions about the color, the shape, etc. In my opinion, the key issue is weight. A bag pack with 20-liter capacity is more than enough for a 3-day tour. If you go higher, the weight will increase more than proportionally and the nice walking could turn in a nightmare. At the beginning of my walking, I noticed that out of many items I put in the bag pack, I used only a very limited number of it. Therefore, be selective! Stay in your 20-liter capacity and have fun!
Good socks are the second crucial element. People tend to buy expensive boots, high tech pools, t-shirts, etc. However, when they spend for socking, the “poor saving syndrome” arrive. Poor quality socks mean the temperature of your feet increase and risk for blisters arrived. Feet blisters management is another “favorite” walking subject I would skip from the wishing list! I am personally inclined to a mid-weight sock. They’re ideal for warm or slightly colder conditions and will usually have a good level of cushioning. Look for socks with a blend of materials to help keep manage the temperature in your feet, which should help prevent blisters.
