The social value of walking! MariaGiulia and I meet recently Bernard Olivier in Verona, the author of the book “Long Marche”. Once he got his pension, Oliver walked for 12.000 km following the Silk Road. However, what I found more interesting is his foundation “Seuil” (Threshold). This what Olivier wrote: “Threshold was born from the meeting that I made in 1998 on the road to Compostela with two young delinquents to whom an intelligent judge had proposed this market: walking or the prison? The happiness of these two teenagers (…) showed enough that the judge was right: confinement is not the solution. The feeling of freedom offered by the hike, the happiness of surpassing oneself and especially the encounters it provides are the true path to resilience” THIS is the social value of walking and…a good reason to walk with www.walkitalytours.it
